The News Minute| December 20, 2014| 10.49 am ISTTesla Motors is ready to enter India with Model III, according to reports on Cleantechnica. It has already made its presence felt in countries like China and Australia with its Model S this year. After the launch of the Model III it will be priced between $30,000 to $40,000.According to the report, the price of the car is in the range of $30,000 to $40,000 because of the heavy import tax applicable in India. The Model S would impose double the import tax as electric luxury cars is subject to 125% of import duty tax.The report which goes on to say that the CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk, is confident that any electric car that provides a surplus of 200+ miles of driving range is going to be more expensive than Tesla’s predictions.India might pose problems for Tesla as it has an unreliable electrical infrastructure, very few charging stations and a population by and large won’t be able to afford the world's cheapest car, adds the report.Tweet
