Google may launch mid-range Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL smartphones

With almost every smartphone maker trying to find a place in the mid-range segment, Google doesn’t want to be left behind. Even otherwise, Google does not boast of a vast variety of smartphones to choose from. It releases just 2 or at best 3 variants of its flagship Pixel phones each year. But the phones have been received well in the market and have scored high on certain parameters when compared to the other brands models from companies like Samsung and Apple.

In a new report appearing on XDA Developers, it is being suggested that Google could come out with mid-range phones this year and they may be called the Google Pixel 3a and Google Pixel 3a XL. The report has been based on the interpretation of the Google ARCore’s device profile database and connecting them to the internal codes being used by Google for these devices as ‘Sargo’ and ‘Bonito’ respectively.

Explaining in detail how this inference is made, the XDA report goes on to predict some key specifications of at least one of these devices, the Google Pixel 3a, while not much has been made available for the Google Pixel 3a XL.

According to this, the Google Pixel 3a will have a 5.56-inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 2220x1080pixels. The processor could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670SoC and 4GB RAM to support it. According to this the RAM will be 32GB with no provision for a microSD card. The battery is likely to be 2915mAh. For optics, there will be a 12MP camera in the rear and 8MP camera in the front. The OS will be the Android Pie. On the Google Pixel 3a XL, the display size of 6inches and the processor being Qualcomm Snapdragon 710SoC are the only two tips.

The report adds that there are many differences between the mainline Pixel phones and these mid-range devices. Apart from the design aspects like replacing the body with a polycarbonate instead of glass and including the 3.5mm jack which the higher end phones don’t have, the processors and battery will also be downgraded. The display notch to makes its appearance in these phones.

The current rumors are that these phones may be released in the US markets soon through the carrier Verizon, but no dates have been specified.
