AP accuses Telangana of secretly generating power from Srisailam; asks Centre to deploy troops to guard reservoirs

The News Minute | January 2, 2015 | 8:15 am ISTThe AP government on Thursday accused the Telangana government of secretly generating power from the Srisailam reservoir kicking up a fresh round of controversy and asked the Centre to deploy troops to guard the reservoirs.In a letter written to the Union water resources ministry, The AP government claimed that the centre had failed to implement the order by the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) which directed Telangana not to utilize Srisailam water for power generation beyond November 2, 2014, a report in the Times of India adds.The AP government also charged that this had deprived drinking water for the entire region of Rayalaseema and also affected SRBC, Telugu Ganga and KC canal ayacut.Citing the recent remarks of Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on KRMB and its chairman, the AP government requested the Centre to protect the interests of AP in the wake of `continuous violations' by the neighboring state.The Union water resources ministry is planning to look into the matter and considering asking the Telangana government for an explanation.Tweet
