The rain gods it seems are being too benevolent on Chennai city as heavy rains continued to batter the city on Monday leading to heavy traffic jams and water-logging.
On Monday, Chennaites were stuck in traffic in various areas like Mount Road, Vadapalani and OMR for hours in the evening. Stuck in public transport for hours, many Chennaites even decided to walk back home.

Even Tambaram Taluk Government General Hospital had to face the brunt of Chennai rains. The hospital was flooded with rainwater in spite of efforts to pump-out water. A medical officer told PTI, “Not all the portions of the hospital are affected, it is only to some extent on the ground level."
He added, "Our services to the people are not affected, the patients in the ward which is witnessing inundation have been shifted to a safer place.”
To make it worse 4000 cusecs of water was released from Chembarambakkam lake, a large portion of which has inundated the city. Last week, about 18,000 cusecs of water release from Chembarambakkam reservoir had led to floods in southern parts of Chennai, according to a TOI report.
The MeT department said that rains will continue in the city for the next two days but it will comparatively become lesser on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram collectors declared a holiday for all schools and colleges in the districts on Tuesday (November 24) due to heavy rain.
