Another history sheeter shot dead by TN police, third extrajudicial killing in 8 days

Mottai Vijay, a history sheeter from Puducherry, allegedly belonging to a gang which attacked and robbed three lorry drivers overnight on April 1, was shot dead by the Cuddalore Police on Wednesday, April 2. According to reports, the Cuddalore police tried to apprehend Vijay near M Pudur. The police said Vijay attacked them with a machete forcing them to open fire at him. 

According to the police, Mottai Vijay has over 30 cases of robbery and murder against him in Tamil Nadu. 

The gang Vijay was part of robbed three lorry drivers on the four lane highway between Villupuram and Nagapattinam on Tuesday, April 1. The gang targeted drivers who had parked their lorries on the side of the highway and were resting near their respective vehicles. The gang stole money, cellphones, and even demanded the drivers’ Google Pay passwords at gun point before attacking them with machetes. 

On Wednesday, the Cudallore police tried to apprehend Vijay after receiving a tip off about his hide-out in M Pudur. 

Mottai Vijay’s body has been taken to Government Cuddalore Medical College and Hospital for an autopsy. 

Mottai Vijay’s extrajudicial killing has come just a day after another history sheeter named Subash Chandra Bose was killed by the Madurai police. Subash, according to reports, was killed after he attempted to flee when the police tried to nab him for questioning in connection to a murder. Earlier, on March 25, Jaffar Ghulam Hussain Irani, an accused in the string of chain snatching incidents in Chennai, was shot dead hours after he was dramatically arrested from the Chennai airport while attempting to flee the state.
