Chennai witnessed a series of gold chain-snatching incidents on Tuesday, March 25, with six cases registered within the Adyar police limits alone. So far, eight incidents have been reported across the city, where two masked men on a motorcycle targeted elderly and lone women walking early in the morning between 6 am and 7 am. The police have arrested two persons in connection with the crime. 

The incidents were reported from Thiruvanmiyur, Besant Nagar, Saidapet, Guindy, Velachery, Tambaram and Pallikaranai. In total, around 25 sovereigns of gold were reportedly stolen.

With multiple complaints of chain-snatching being reported, a special team under the Adyar Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) was formed and the arrest was made promptly after scouring through the CCTV.

The accused have been reportedly identified as Suraj (28) and Jafer (27), who are believed to be natives of Uttar Pradesh.They were detained at Chennai airport before they could fly to Hyderabad. Police have reportedly recovered the snatched gold from them. Further probe is underway.
