Woman riding bike dies near Hyderabad as truck runs her over, accident caught on CCTV
A woman riding a two-wheeler was killed in a road accident in Medchal, near Hyderabad after coming under the wheels of a truck while crossing a gap in the median at a junction on the morning of Thursday, September 29. The accident was recorded on a CCTV camera, which showed the woman, 35-year-old Priya, crossing the main road from the opposite side and cutting across the opening in the median. As she reaches the middle of the road, the truck is seen swerving to the left to avoid hitting her but fails to do so. The woman died on the spot, police said. Priya, who worked as a security guard, was on her way to work when the accident happened around 6 am on Thursday at the Vivekananda junction in Medchal.
A case has been registered against the truck driver under Section 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Medchal Inspector of Police S Rajasekhar Reddy said. “The truck driver was at fault as he should’ve slowed down at the median opening of a junction. The victim also took a very long arc which led to the accident,” he said.
In another such accident in Medchal, recently on September 12, three people died after a two-wheeler rammed into a pedestrian crossing the road, and then came under a truck. Both the individuals on the two-wheeler and the pedestrian died on the spot. This accident was also captured on CCTV and showed the couple on the two-wheeler seemingly overtaking the truck, and hitting the pedestrian while doing so. The accident happened near the Medchal bus depot. The couple were travelling by bike from Ramayampet to Kondapur in Hyderabad when they rammed into the pedestrian crossing the road. The bike went under the truck which was moving parallel to it. Earlier in August, four persons including two children were killed in a car crash in Nizamabad district.
