Former Karnataka Chief Minister and senior JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, and president of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and MP Thol Thirumavalavan met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) on Wednesday, October 5, ahead of the launch of KCR’s new national party. KCR hosted breakfast for Kumaraswamy, several leaders of Janata Dal (Secular), Thirumavalavan and other representatives of VCK at Pragati Bhavan, the official residence of the Chief Minister.

The leaders of JD(S) and VCK arrived in Hyderabad on the invitation of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief KCR, who is set to formally announce the launch of his national political party on the occasion of Dasara. KCR, TRS working president KT Rama Rao and others welcomed the guests at Pragati Bhavan and hosted breakfast for them. Ministers T Harish Rao, Prashanth Reddy, MP Santosh Kumar, several TRS MLAs, MLCs and other leaders were also present.

Kumaraswamy, former minister Revanna, a few JD(S) MLAs and senior leaders arrived in Hyderabad by a special aircraft from Bengaluru on Tuesday night. KTR and other TRS leaders welcomed the JD(S) leaders at Begumpet Airport. The leaders of JD(S) and VCK will attend the extended general body meeting of the TRS scheduled to be held later in the day at the TRS headquarters Telangana Bhavan. The meeting is likely to pass a resolution to transform TRS into Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi (BRS).

TRS sources had earlier told PTI that KCR’s party would highlight the welfare schemes being implemented in Telangana like Rythu Bandhu (an investment support scheme for farmers) and Dalita Bandhu (Rs 10 lakh grant to every Dalit household to start any business or trade), and question why such measures were not being implemented across the country. The party would also raise questions as to why electricity has not been provided to all the villages in the country even 75 years after independence, and also why welfare measures for the poor are being described as "freebies".
