Beep song: Conflicting statements by T Rajendar and Anirudh stokes controversy

With just three days after the viral ‘Beep Song’ was uploaded on YouTube, conflicting statements made on behalf of actor Simbu and by music director Anirudh Ravichander has only made the mystery surrounding the making of the song murkier.

Popular actor T Rajendar and father of actor-singer Simbu filed a police compliant stating that there was a third person involved in doctoring the audio and it was released with intentions of causing damage to his son and the musician.

"The said music was composed by the music director Mr Anirudh as a rough one and subsequently deserted.... I further submit that in the said content containing interpolated words which was not used by the music director or sang by my son, I reliably understand that some unscrupulous, mischievous third person, who may be connected with the music or film industry had stolen the said content."

Now contrary to the statement made by Simbu and his father, Anirudh Ravichander who is currently in Toronto as he performed at a fundraiser for the Chennai floods tweeted denying any role in making of the song.

It was earlier reported that Simbu's friend admitted of composing the song but said it was not intended for the public and was ‘unintentionally’ shared by another person to his network. It was also stated that the song was recorded one and a half year ago and was due to be released after offensive words were removed.

IndiaGlitz had earlier quoted a person known to be close to both the celebs saying, “First of all the song was done for friends and it was not for public audience. Some over enthusiastic friend who got this song shared it amongst his network & it got sped [sic] virally.”

After the song went viral, All India Democratic Women’s Association’s Coimbatore unit lodged a complaint with the police taking offence of the objectionable sexist lyrics followed by the police registering a complaint under sections of indecent representation of women of the IPC.

Simbu’s advocate C Rajashekaran then said, “The song which is going viral on YouTube & WhatsApp is not the official version, moreover the lyrics seems to be misunderstood as my clients, actor Simbu & music director Anirudh are shocked. My clients strongly feel it might have been motivated leak by some unknown persons with malafide intentions & ulterior motives to tarnish the image & cause reputation damage.”

Meanwhile, the Coimbatore police have issued a summons to Simbu.

So far, an online petition seeking a blanket ban on this song has attracted support of 237 people on grounds of obscenity and improper portrayal of women.
