Woman robbed at gunpoint at ATM in Hyderabad

An unidentified person opened fire at a young woman inside an ATM and robbed her of money and jewellery in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The incident occurred at the State Bank ATM in the area of Yousufguda at around 7:30 am when Sreelatha, a software engineer, was withdrawing money.The armed man, who was wearing a mask, entered the ATM behind her and asked her to hand over the cash she had and the ornaments she was wearing. When she refused, he opened fire.A terrified Sreelatha then surrendered the money, gold chain, ear studs and rings to the robber, who also snatched her mobile phone and ATM card. He forced her to reveal the PIN number.After the crime, the man escaped from the ATM, which had no security guard. The techie, who hails from Vijayanagaram district in Andhra Pradesh and was living in a working women's hostel, told police that the robber, aged around 22-25 years, spoke in Telugu.A police official said the attacker fired a single round and the bullet pierced through the wall adjacent to the ATM machine. Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Venkateswar Rao said a country-made weapon was used in the crime. Police said they were scanning the images from CCTV cameras in and around the ATM. With IANS
