The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party in Telangana on Wednesday bagged four out of the six seats in the legislative council polls that were held recently. The Congress party also managed to secure two seats.

Elections were held for a total of 12 seats in nine districts of Telangana and the TRS had already bagged six of the 12 total seats, including Adilabad, Warangal, Nizamabad, Medak, and Karimnagar. 

The winners on Wednesday included Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy's brother Narender Reddy from the TRS and former Zilla Parishad chairman of Mahabubnagar K Damodar Reddy's brother Rajagopal Reddy from the Congress.

The polling for the last six seats, which included two in Ranga Reddy and Mahbubnagar, and one each in Nalgonda, Khammam, was held on December 27.

A report in The Hindu adds:

The TRS cadres celebrated the victory of the party in the MLC election by bursting firecrackers near the bypass road in Khammam. Elated over his victory, Mr Lakshminarayana said the electors reposed their faith in the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and rejected the "unethical alliance."

However, the CPI has since alleged that TRS won the MLC election by resorting to unethical practices like encouraging defections and using money power.

Deccan Chronicle added that with Wednesday’s results, the TRS party’s strength rose to 29 in the Legislative Council of 40 while the Congress’ strength rose to eight. The Independents held two and BJP held one, while the TDP has no representative in the Telangana state council.
