The News Minute | July 24, 2014 | 4:59 PM ISTA report on The Hindu says that the driver of the bus which met with a tragic accident on Thursday was talking on his mobile phone while the vehicle was crossing an unmanned level crossing near Masaipet. The bus was rammed by the Nanded passenger train killing twenty school children and the driver. Fourteen children have also hospitalized with severe injuries, according to the railways. The bus usually used to take another route and cross a manned crossing line, a little far away from the accident spot. The driver Balakrishna joined work just on Thursday morning and he had decided to take a new route. It says that the single track runs parallel to the NH 44 and hence there was no chance that the driver could cite ‘obstruction of vision’ as a reason for the accident. Officials told The Hindu that the driver was speeding since the school was supposed to start by 9:15 am. A senior official at the South Central Railways told The Hindu that the number of deaths at Unmanned Level Crossings have been reducing since 2011.
