Creating a fake account on Facebook of any official in the Telangana government, may soon land you in trouble, as the state government has decided to crackdown on such imposter pages.

Dileep Konatham, Director (Digital Media), IT Department issued a warning in this regard on Friday, after 15 fake accounts were detected and the process to get them removed was initiated. 

Speaking to mediapersons, Dileep said that as many as 130 fake FB pages had been deleted over the last two years, as the IT department had been taking up cases.

"People may be doing it out of admiration for their leaders, but opening fake accounts is not right at all. Those doing it (opening fake accounts) repeatedly will face strict action,“ Dileep was quoted as saying.

“We are against filing cases since we know that most of these pages are set up by admirers of leaders or ministers. But, they do not realize that what they are doing is misleading,” he added.

This comes days after a conductor of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) was suspended from service for posting comments on social media against the state Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The conductor from Nizamabad-I depot, identified as D Sanjeev, had criticised the government’s policies on Facebook during the recently held Singareni Collieries’ Workers Union election.

In his posts, he also wrote against the TSRTC for forcing them to work for at least 16 hours in a day.

Viewing his posts as critical of the government and its policies, vigilance officials wrote a letter to the Nizamabad depot, following which an inquiry was initiated against him.

The conductor was pulled up by vigilance and security officials to explain his actions on October 6, following which they conducted a probe and filed a report that the employee 'misguided the public'.

Following this, the depot manager issued the suspension order earlier this week.
