21-year-old Mahesh was in love with the girl around two years ago, but the girl's family advised her against this and she had rejected his marriage proposal recently, Adilabad District Superintendent of Police Vikramjit Duggal told PTI over phone.

"Mahesh stabbed the girl in front of her house with a knife at around 2.30 PM and slit her throat. She died on the spot," Duggal said.

"The girl's family had arranged her marriage with another man and she was to get married soon," he added.

"A murder case was registered at Bhainsa Police and the accused was taken into custody", the police officer said, adding investigations are underway.
