Telangana Cultural complex to come up in NTR stadium

The News Minute | November 23, 2014 | 8:20 am ISTThe Telangana state government announced plans on Saturday, to construct a multi-crore cultural complex in the NTR Stadium to boost cultural activities in Hyderabad.The stadium which is currently used for organizing coaching camps for a variety of sports is expected to get a complete makeover soon.According to a report in the Times of India, the stadium is a source of revenue for the GHMC as the corporation charges Rs one lakh per day for commercial functions and half the amount for religious functions being organized in the stadium.N.T Rama Rao was one of united Andhra’s most celebrated Chief Ministers and the actor turned politician was also the founder of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), the key opposition party in Telangana.While there is no talk if the stadium will be renamed, this incident comes to light after the recent issue over renaming the domestic terminal in the Hyderabad airport after NTR. This move is expected to boost cultural activities in Telangana but may bring out dissatisfaction in sports enthusiasts as sporting activities will be replaced in the stadium.
