Telangana, Andhra police chiefs assume office

The News Minute| June 2, 2014 | 5:30 PM IST New police chiefs of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh assumed charge Monday.While Anurag Sharma took over as the first director general of police (DGP) of Telangana, J. V. Ramudu took charge as the new police chief of Andhra Pradesh.Sharma, who was police commissioner of Hyderabad, thanked Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao for appointing him as the first DGP of the new state. The 1981 Indian Police Service (IPS) batch officer was serving as the police commissioner of Hyderabad since May 2012.Ramudu succeeded B. Prasada Rao, who has been appointed as the home secretary of Andhra Pradesh. He also belongs to 1981 batch of the IPS. Ramudu hails from Anantapur district and has discharged responsibilities in different capacities battling left-wing extremism.Meanwhile, M. Mahender Reddy took charge as the new police commissioner of police of Hyderabad. He had earlier served as the commissioner of Cyberabad police. The 1986 IPS batch officer had also served as chief of Greyhounds, the elite anti-Maoist force and police intelligence.IANS
