The Rachakonda police arrested an Ola cab driver in Hyderabad on Tuesday morning after he allegedly harassed a woman passenger, who works in an IT company.

The accused, identified as 22-year-old K Shiva Kumar, is a resident of BN Reddy Nagar Colony in Vanasthalipuram.

In her complaint, the woman said that she had booked an Ola share cab to travel from Gowlidoddi to Lingampally railway station.

After all the others who were sharing the cab got down, the woman alleged that the accused began misbehaving with her.

“After the other cab passengers got down, Shiva Kumar kept on staring at the woman and forced her to give her mobile number and misbehaved with her. He diverted the route and took the PVNR Expressway towards Shamshabad. The woman first questioned him and then started shouting. He stopped the cab at Aramghar and got out. She immediately took an auto rickshaw and reached her home at Vanasthalipuram,” the police said in a press release.

The woman also sent a complaint to the SHE Teams of Rachakonda police on their WhatsApp number --+919490617111 later in the day.

In her complaint, she detailed what had happened and mentioned the driver’s licence number and his phone number.

Following this, Shiva was arrested and produced in court which remanded him in judicial custody.

He was booked and arrested under section 354 (assault or using criminal force with an intent to outrage the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“If the complaint is true, then we permanently blacklist the driver concerned and take his details down to make sure he does not resume work again in our company. If there is a police case, we coordinate with the police and deal with the issue,” a source from Ola told Deccan Chronicle.

In April this year, a 40-year-old cab driver was arrested after he allegedly exposed himself indecently to a woman tourist.

The victim, who works in Bengaluru, had come to Hyderabad along with her family on a three-day visit.

"On the third day at the end of their tour when they were going to the railway station, the lady was sitting on a seat next to the driver while her parents and relatives were in the back seat. When they reached Ramanthapur area in the city, the driver exposed himself in an indecent manner," the police had said.

Following this, the woman complained to the SHE teams, and the man was arrested.
