NIA conducts raids in Hyderabad's old city, alleged ISIS members detained

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday night carried out raids in different localities of Hyderabad’s old city and detained at least five persons, who were allegedly planning terror activities in the city, police said.

"Raids are going on at three to four places in the old city area. NIA is doing it. The local police is assisting them. Searches are being conducted over some suspected terror activities that were planned to be carried out in the city," a senior intelligence officer said.

Around five persons (suspects) have been detained and some explosive material (ammunition) has been recovered, sources in the intelligence department, Hyderabad Police, told PTI.

"We are not sure who these people (suspects) are and the groups they are affiliated with," the sources added.

On Wednesday morning, reports suggested that the people detained could likely be linked to ISIS. However, official confirmation is awaited.
