Hyderabad's arterial sewer between Ameerpet and Liberty in dire state

Written by : TNM Staff

The sewer connecting Ameerpet-Greenlands to the GHMC head office near Liberty in Hyderabad, is reportedly on the verge of collapse as the pipeline was laid more than two decades ago.

Writing for The New Indian Express, Bachan Jeet Singh reported:

Last month, a portion of 1600/1800 mm dia trunk sewer main collapsed in front of the NTR Gardens on NTR Marg Road, resulting in closure of the road for a few days, leading to traffic snarls. Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K T Rama Rao directed Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to carry out a study of the prevailing condition of the existing trunk sewer line to avoid such incidents in near future.

The report adds HMW&SB study found that the pipeline could collapse and suggested suitable rehabilitation.

In fact, this was the same sewer line that was breached on NTR Marg last month after heavy rains lashed the city.

The sewer passes through Necklace Road and NTR Garden.

According to reports, the trunk sewer, which was laid during 1995-1996 was designed to divert sewerage from Yousufuguda nala, Banjara Nala, and Bulkapur nala.
