A hotel receptionist was arrested for allegedly trying to outrage the modesty of a 24-year-old woman guest in the wee hours on Tuesday, police said.

The victim, who hails from Visakhapatnam and works as a Relationship Manager at a private company there, had yesterday checked-in at the lodge-cum-hotel at L B Nagar area here.

According to police, the receptionist, identified as Dasari Shekhar, managed to gain entry into the woman's room at around 3 AM and attempted to outrage her modesty when she was asleep.

"The woman immediately raised an alarm, following which Shekhar fled. However, he was caught by the hotel staff and a police party on patrol was informed about the incident," L B Nagar Police Station Inspector P Kasi Reddy said.

"Based on the complaint lodged by the woman, a case under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of IPC was registered and the accused was arrested and sent to judicial remand," he said.
