Dalits and women feel unsafe under BJP govt, says Telangana MP Kavitha

Written by : TNM Staff

TRS MP K Kavitha on Saturday lashed out against the BJP-led government at the Centre and said that Dalits and women across the country were feeling insecure under the present regime in New Delhi.

The Nizamabad Lok Sabha member also said that Telangana state on the other hand was ensuring the safety, security and welfare of Dalits, as the TRS government was dealing strongly against cases of attacks against Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs).

Speaking to reporters during a press meet in Nizamabad, Kavitha said, "TRS fought for the statehood movement drawing inspiration from Dr. BR Ambedkar and achieved it with the help of Article 3 of the Indian constitution. We implemented his ideology in various government schemes."

She accused the Centre of failing to argue in favour of the SC/ST Atrocities Act when a Supreme Court's judgement could potentially dilute the law.

She also spoke about the 'Federal Front' being set up by her father and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Stating that people were looking for an alternative, she told reporters,"People are looking for a change in the country. The measures that the Telangana government took for welfare and protection of women, if implemented in the country, will help in preventing crimes against them. Both the BJP and Congress have failed and the new alternative front being formed by KCR will come to power in the next elections."

In a related development, Kavitha's brother and Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao, also praised the Federal Front on Saturday.

Lamenting the absence of a 'federal spirit' in the country, KTR said that Dr BR Ambedkar's Constitution intended India to be a federal republic, which is what CM KCR was attempting, as he was fighting against the increasing centralisation of power in New Delhi.

KCR on Friday discussed the proposed people's front with former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda in Bengaluru.

The TRS chief, who along with some top party leaders reached Bengaluru in a special aircraft, called on the Janata Dal-Secular leader and discussed national politics.

Deve Gowda's son and former Karnataka Chief Minister H D. Kumaraswamy and well-known actor Prakash Raj were also present during the meeting.

KCR reiterated that the front was proposed not to play "silly politics" but was aimed at bringing qualitative change in the country's politics. He said the front would bring together farmers and masses of India.
