A 16-year-old girl was hacked to death by her father on Wednesday in Kamareddy district of Telangana. The reason behind the killing is yet to be known as the accused, Balaiah is at large.

Police are probing if the victim was sexually assaulted.

The incident happened on Tuesday evening and came to light when Balaiah’s wife returned home and saw her daughter lying in a pool of blood on Wednesday morning.

Police said that Baliah and his wife often quarrel. It was after their fight that the victim went to her parents’ house, said the police.

Speaking to TNM, Tawadi SI Anjaiah said that the accused, who is mentally unstable and shows aggressive behaviour, is still at large. “Earlier too there was a police case against him for hitting his brother with a beer bottle over a petty issue. That case recently came to a compromise,” said the SI.

Anjaiah added, “We enquired if the girl was harassed by her father in the past from the neighbours, they denied any such incident. However, we have sent the body for examination to find out if she was sexually assaulted before being killed. If the assault is proved we will add POSCO (Protection of children from sexual offences) Act too.”

A case under IPC section 302 (murder) has been filed against Balaiah for now.
