TN man gets life sentence for killing wife two years after marriage

A 29-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment on Tuesday by a local court in  Udhagamandalam, Tamil Naidu for murdering his wife in 2013 barely two years after their marriage.

Mahila court judge M Sarvamangala awarded life sentence to Balakrishnan, husband of Suganya, for the murder besides imposing a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

The prosecution case was that Balakrishnan, a driver, had married Suganya in September 2011 and the couple used to quarrel frequently over the "illicit affair" he had with some women.

Suganya was found dead under mysterious circumstance in her house in Kolakombai about 20km from here, on January six 2013.

The murder came to light a year later when Balakrishnan, under the influence of liquor, told Suganya's sister that it has he who had strangulated her to death.

Based on a complaint by Suganya's sister, Balakrishnan was arrested.
