A week after vice-chancellors of universities met VK Sasikala, governor Vidyasagar Rao on Monday questioned the government and asked for an explanation on this matter, reported The Times of India.

A senior official from Raj Bhavan told TOI that the governor had asked for an explanation from the higher education department.

AIADMK organ Dr Namadhu MGR had published photographs of the vice-chancellors meeting and captioned it saying that they pleaded with her to take over as the party’s leader.

This came after DMK treasurer and opposition leader MK Stalin filed a statement asking for an urgent need to act, to protect the interest of higher education from the VCs who met the governor. Moreover, he called it unconstitutional and unethical to meet people who do not hold an office.

The vice-chancellors who met Sasikala denied that they have received any communication from the government or the governor’s office.     

The Times of India reported that sources in Bharthiar University told that VC’s office received a communication on the issue at 3pm on Monday. But the VC A Ganapathi refused to have received any communication. He said that they only met Sasikala to pay their condolences.

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University vice chancellor K Ramasamy told TOI that Sasikala visit was only a courtesy call. He added that they visited her in two batches to offer her condolences. The second batch also gave her a letter.
