TN: Couple, daughter booked under SC/ST Act, IPC for abusing Dalit daughter-in-law

A couple and their daughter have been booked under provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and IPC for allegedly abusing their Dalit daughter-in-law and calling her by her caste name besides asking her to move out of their house.

The 23-year-old woman, working in a private firm fell in love with her colleague and got married in March. Both were living in the man's house near Mettupalayam, along with his parents and sister, police said.

However, the in-laws, came to know about her caste background and allegedly abused and called her by her caste name and asked her to move out of the house on Saturday, they said.

The woman lodged a complaint with police station, following which the in-laws were asked to come to the station to discuss the issue, on Sunday.

However, they did not turn up and are said to be absconding following which cases under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and IPC were registered against them, police added.
