After Tamil Nadu ministers threatened actor Kamal Haasan with a tax audit and accused him of going against Tamil culture for being in a live-in relationship, opposition leader and DMK working president MK Stalin has come to the actor’s defence. 

Stalin said that every voter had the right to criticise the benami and horse-trading government.

In a statement, MK Stalin said, “Haasan is only reflecting the sentiments of the people.It is the right of every voter including Haasan to criticise the benami and horse-trading government in power,” reported The Times of India.

He added that Tamil Nadu was steeped in corruption and this has been noted by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Madras High Court and the Supreme Court. 

Moreover, he said that all the ministers will go to jail if legal action was taken on the basis of evidence collected in the cancelled RK Nagar elections, horse-trading of MLAs at Koovathur or the Gutkha scam, reported TOI.

Later, Kamal Haasan thanked Stalin for defending him, in a series of tweets.    

On Sunday, Law Minister CV Shanmugam accused Kamal Haasan of “going against Tamil and Indian culture” by having a live-in relationship. 

"He has no right to talk about all this. He is struggling to make money now. He is not getting any chances in films and is a third-rate actor," said minister Shanmugam to the media in Villupuram.

This comes just a day after Municipal Administration minister SP Velumani threatened to probe the actor’s tax history, to find evidence of wrongdoing.
