The News Minute | November 26, 2014 | 8.36 am ISTA signature campaign has been initiated in Madurai to widen the scope of the Sagayam probe panel set up by the High Court of Madras. Members of ‘Kanimavala Muraikedu Sagayam Aaivukuzhu Aadharavu Iyakkam,’ the State-level forum to support Sagayam panel has initiated this campaign, The Hindu reported. The forum was formed recently by a group of people to help U Sagayam, an IAS officer and his team in probing the illegal quarrying. Sagayam was appointed by the High Court of Madras to investigate into the illegal quarrying. He, as the District Collector of Madurai, had unearthed illegalities and taken action against the errant. On his writing to the the High Court of Madras seeking clarification whether his probe was to be limited to Madurai district alone or the entire state of Tamil Nadu, the court had clarified that it was to be done in Madurai alone. Volunteers of this forum were stationed outside the Collectorate, Government Law College and Session Court in Madurai for collecting signatures. “We were able to collect 1,257 signatures today and are planning to continue with this campaign for the next one week. We will send the signatures collected to the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in Chennai and ask for removal of restrictions on the scope of the panel,” president of the forum P.
