A minor girl who was studying in Class 12th in the St. Joseph’s convent school committed suicide after allegedly facing sexual harassment for six months from her chemistry teacher in Kancheepuram.

The girl hanged herself in her grandmother’s house in Devanur at 7:30AM on Thursday and left a suicide note blaming the teacher.

In her suicide note addressed to the school head-master she wrote about the bad behaviour of the school teacher Ramesh, 38-years old, and said that he should not go unpunished. She also stated that many of her classmates were also sexually harassed by the same teacher.

She also wrote, “No one has complained till now but I want to ensure that no one goes through the same suffering again. At least my death should lead to his punishment.”

Sources said that the teacher was blackmailing her with some of her pictures.

However, the girl neither complained to the school authorities nor her grandmother with whom she was staying, fearing that it would cause her shame.

Moreover, three months back, Ramesh’s wife had complained to the Cheyyur police station alleging that her husband was sexually harassing many other girls and also blackmailing them with their pictures. But there was no action from the police then.

Later in the day, the girl’s relatives blocked the roads with the girl’s body near the Cheyyur police station demanding justice for the girl. The girl’s grandmother filed a complaint and Ramesh has been arrested and sent to remand.

The girl was from Tindivanam and was sent to stay with her grandmother to get better education.
