A person has been arrested in connection with the suicide of a 21-year-old woman in Salem after her morphed picture was uploaded on Facebook.

In addition, the head constable investigating the case has been suspended following reports of him allegedly receiving a bribe in the form of a chordless phone.

Suresh, a handloom worker from the district, was arrested for allegedly uploading the morphed pictures of the woman, Salem SP, Amit Kumar Singh said.

The accused has confessed to his crime. He said that he did so because she had turned down his marriage proposal, Singh told reporters.

A Vinupriya, a Chemistry graduate, had committed suicide by hanging herself in her house in Salem on Monday after a morphed picture showing her in an obscene fashion, was uploaded on Facebook by unidentified persons.

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged on June 23 with the police but no action was taken, the victim's father, Annadurai alleged. He had said another semi-nude picture of his daughter was sent to him on his mobile following which Vinupriya took the extreme step.
