Putting end to speculation, Amit Shah announces Tamilisai as TN party chief

Written by : PTI

BJP National President Amit Shah on Sunday announced that the head of his party's Tamil Nadu unit, Dr Tamilisai Soundarajan will continue as state president, virtually handing her the mantle to steer the state unit in the coming elections.

Shah announced that "Dr Tamilisai Soundarajan, the present state President, will continue," in the post, a brief release put up on BJP's national website said.

A medical practitioner by profession, Soundarajan was first appointed in 2014, following then state head Pon Radhakrishnan being included in the Narendra Modi-led cabinet after the Lok Sabha polls.

The announcement, made following the end of Soundarajan's term recently, ends all speculations of a shake-up at the top level, in view of the impending Assembly polls, where the BJP is scouting for allies.

A section of its leaders have also expressed willingness to face the polls without allies although BJP is wooing actor-politician Vijayakant's DMDK which was part of NDA's rainbow coalition that faced the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
