The News Minute| September 19, 2014| 11.50 am ISTAnyone filing an RTI request will have to reveal the purpose behind the query, said the Madras High Court.According to the Madras High Court, any RTI (Right to Information) applicant must reveal reasons behind filing any query, whether in personal or public interest, said the New Indian Express. If details are not revealed then such a query will not be considered satisfying the requirements of the RTI Act, said the Court according to the report. This decision was made by a Division Bench of Justices N Paul Vasanthakumar and K Ravichandrabaabu in a query directing the High Court Public Information Officer(PIO) to provide information to an RTI applicant. The PIO had in turn refused to provide answers to the RTI query after which the applicant had moved the court, said the report. The Bench also observed that any ‘Right’ requires a legal basis and must have a purpose behind it.
