PMK and BJP in verbal spat, alliance unlikely

The PMK and the BJP indulged in a war of words on Sunday, with both stating they were not interested in a tie-up. The Hindu reports that in an interview to a Tamil television channel, PMK founder S. Ramadoss said he did not wish for an alliance with the BJP. “I know the BJP was in talks with us. But personally I was not interested in the alliance,” he said.

Hitting back, BJP’s Tamil Nadu president Tamilisai Soundararajan said the party invited the PMK because it was part of the NDA in 2014 but threw the ball in Ramadoss’ court, saying he was not interested in the alliance.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu BJP’s Twitter team hit out at the AIADMK, caricaturing Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and her friend N. Sasikala. The tweets also said the AIADMK government has pushed the State backward in education and alleged that funds from the Centre to the tune of Rs. 4,400 crore went unutilised.
 

MDMK Chief Vaiko on Sunday reiterated the PWF’s invitation to DMDK to join their alliance for the polls. The MDMK leader said the preliminary seat sharing talks were held cordially, but no final decision had been arrived on yet. Meanwhile, the BJP is still banking on the DMDK despite being cold-shouldered by the party earlier.
