The Coimbatore police have charged a case against an organization called ‘Base Movement’ which sent threatening letters to five prisons in the state on Sunday.

According to the Times of India report, the jail superintendents received the letters after officials transferred members of al-Umma S `Police' Fakruddin, Panna Ismail, Bilal Malik, Munna alias Rafiq, Khaja Moideen and Mannadi Abdullah to Coimbatore, Trichy , Mudurai and Vellore prison from Chennai. They were moved after an attack on prison officials in Puzhal prisons on September 26.

The letter had a map of India and blamed the prison officials for the repeated assault on the prisoners in the Puzhal prisons and also wrote about the government’s silence on this issue.

A city official told The New Indian Express that the letter said that the Base Movement’s ‘mission’ had begun and the Prison Department officials should count their days. The letter also said that it was written by “distressed prisoners”.

The letters were sent to the Vellore, Madurai, Tiruchy, Chennai and Coimbatore prisons.

The police traced the sender’s to Kottaimedu in Coimbatore. No arrests have been made till now.

However, security has been increased in all the nine check posts in the city for safety purposes.

A case has been registered under IPC Section 507 (Criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) following a complaint from the Coimbatore Prison Superintendent, D Palani.
