Written by : TNM

The Newsminute| November 7, 2014| 11.41 am ISTAccording to a TOI report, Madras High Court on 6th of November ruled that a married woman can get her father’s government job on grounds of compassion. The earlier decree only allowed married sons of government employees to avail of this kind of appointment. The decree was changed on the basis of a petition filed by P. R. Renuka, daughter of an office assistant with the animal husbandry department who passed away in 1998. Renuka had obtained a divorce from her husband in 1999. When she applied for her father’s job on grounds of compassion, the department rejected it saying that she was still married at the time of her father’s death.Justice Hariparanthaman overruled the rejection saying that it violated Renuka’s fundamental right to equality.
