Madras High Court denied to issue any blanket injunction orders restraining three Tamil dailies from publishing news and articles critical of former chief minister and AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam and AIADMK Ambattur MLA, Vedhachalam, according to The Times of India.

The petition was filed against Tamil dailies Dinakaran, Tamil Murasu and Dinamalar by O Panneerselvam and Vedhachalam. Now the cases will be called for hearing on April 11,2016.

In his petition, O Panneerselvam claimed that Dinkaran and Tamil Murasu had published defamatory articles against him to tarnish his image among public. He also added that the Tamil dailies also reported that he with other four people had formed a coterie against CM Jayalalithaa, according to TOI.

In response to the petition, the judge said that no injunction can be provided as it would violate freedom of speech.

Justice Sasidharan said: “Since such a stand was taken, it would not be proper to pass a blanket order of injunction,“ as reported in TOI.
