Madras HC grants a day’s parole to one of the convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case

One of the convicts of the Rajiv Gandhi assassin case, Nalini on Tuesday was awarded a day’s parole (Tuesday 4 PM-Wednesday 4PM) to attend her father’s death ceremony to be held on Wednesday.

Nalini Sriharan serving life sentence in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, had moved the Madras High Court seeking three days leave from Tuesday for attending the 16th day obsequies of her father, who passed away last month, to held on March 9.

Granting the parole Justice R Mala said that no interviews should be conducted and forbade her to leave her house in Kotturpuram.

Nalini was granted parole for 12 hours on February 24 to attend the cremation of her father Sankaranarayanan.

Nalini was sentenced to death by the trial court in the case on January 28, 1998. Her sentence was commuted to life term by the Tamil Nadu Governor on April 24, 2000.
