Madras HC asks police to pay Rs. 10.62 crore as compensation to a private school

The News Minute | November 29, 2014 | 11.49 am ISTThe High Court of Madras has slapped a hefty sum on the state police to be paid as compensation to a private school. The Madurai bench of the High Court of Madras on Thursday ordered the Director General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Trichy to pay Rs. 10.62 crore to a private school owner, Times of India reported.The money has to be paid within seven weeks. The petitioner contended that the armed police of the state had been illegally occupying 1.25 acre of land belonging to the private school for fifteen years.The petitioner was promised by the state police that it would acquire the land for Rs. 10.62 crore. Having failed to keep the promise, the petitioner approached the high court.
