Liquor units run by party workers will be shut down if elected, says DMK on prohibition

Written by : PTI

With prohibition being the buzzword for the May 16 assembly polls, DMK today sought to go one up on its rivals, saying liquor units run by party workers will be closed if it comes to power.

Replying to a question on CPI leader R Nallakkannu's charge that many functionaries of DMK, which promised to bring in prohibition, are running liquor units, Kanimozhi daughter of party chief M Karunanidhi told reporters at the airport in Coimbatore that all such units will be closed if DMK comes to power and then introduces prohibition.

"Even those running these units have assured that they will not sell or supply liquor to other states," she said.

Asked for her reaction to frequent changes of candidates by ruling AIADMK, Kanimozhi said the party was 'afraid' of the strength of DMK candidates and was hence resorting to frequent changes.
