Here’s some good news for Indians who have no passport or legal travel documents in the Gulf Emirates. Kuwait is granting partial amnesty to about 28,000 Indians, according to Times of India.

Most of the people are mainly from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Kuwait announced on Sunday that it would be giving partial amnesty to illegal residents to return back to their countries. Residency violators will be allowed to pay fines and legalise their status or leave the country without being blacklisted.

Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Sunil Jain told TOI that the residency violators have to pay the fine to legalise their status. He said, “We are ready to help our nationals by granting them emergency certificates. These are one-way travel document to travel to India in the absence of a passport. The amnesty will help them return home or correct their status. We'll see how many Indians will make use of the amnesty.”

Kuwaiti director of public relations and security media department Brig Adel Al-Hashash told TOI that all residency departments are all set to collect the fines, legalise status and also to send back people to their home country.

Most of the Indians left their original sponsors and started working with other organizations. Many of them are construction workers, maids, delivery boys, cleaners and fishermen.
