An IIT Madras association of 10 members have shaken up New Delhi's corridors of power. On April 14, the Ambedkar Periyar Circle (APSC) conducted a lecture by Dr R Vivekanda Gopal from the Dravidian University, Andhra Pradesh on the “Contemporary Relevance of Dr. Ambedkar”.Though the professor's lecture was confined to Ambedkar and his principles, the pamphlets distributed before the talk was delivered discussed other issues including central government polices and measures. Speaking to The News Minute Dr. R Vivekanda Gopal said that after he spoke about Ambedkar, students discussed the issues mentioning in the pamphlet. "They discussed the issue after my speech but that much freedom they need to have," he said.Although the anonymous complaint to the Ministry of Human Resource Development is being discussed, IIT Madras has seen some amount of political activity in the last few months. Other posters have been circulated and posted on hostel boards under the name of Revolutionary Student Youth Front (RSYF) across campus. The APSC group held a discussion on "Language Politics in India: Past and Present" in October, 2014 A staff member of the institute's campus magazine Fifth Estate said that though the APSC was formed as a discussion front for Ambedkar and his writings, over time its purpose had taken on a different form.
