Former Rajya Sabha MP N Rajendran was found dead in his car, with a gunshot wound on his head in Thoothukudi district on Wednesday. A revolver was found next to him in the car. Police claim that he committed suicide.

Sources told The New Indian Express that there were problems in his daughter-in-law’s house and N Rajendran’s business had suffered losses because of his son. Due to these reasons the family was tensed and they had not even celebrated Deepavali festival.

He had last spoken to his assistant at 5:20pm and told him that he will be going home alone. Police said the incident took place between 5:30 and 6pm.

SP Ashwin, Superintendent of Police told The New Indian Express that it was a planned suicide. He had pulled trigger on his right temple and the temple came out from the left.

He also clarified that investigations have shown that they were some family issues and he also had prostate problem.

Passersby had noticed a car lying on NH7 near Kovilpatti bus stand and found Rajendran’s body inside the car with a revolver.

N Rajendran was a Rajya Sabha MP from AIADMK party from July 1995 to July 2001. He resigned from AIADMK in 2000 and had joined DMK before completing his tenure. Before leaving politics, he was also treasurer of DMK from Thoothukudi district.

He was running a marriage hall and bus service business after leaving politics.
