Fire breaks out at Chennai's Parry Corner, no injuries reported

Eight people were rescued by firefighters from the third floor of a Chennai building on Friday after a fire broke out in its basement. The basement was being used as a leather godown.

The building is located at Parry’s Corner behind State Bank of India building.

The building where the fire broke out, also housed branches of four private banks-Yes Bank, Catholic Syrian Bank , Kotak Mahindra and RBL.

Joint Director of Fire Department , Shahul Hameed told the media that a total of five fire engines, four tankers and a skylift were used for the rescue operations.

He added that the fire had been put out completely and its cause would be ascertained after an investigation.
