Does Napoleon's entry into the BJP have Alagiri's blessings?

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | December 20, 2014 | 05:41 pm IST BJP party president Amit Shah has landed in Chennai in a move to spruce up the party’s aspirations ahead of the upcoming 2016 Assembly elections. Set to address a public gathering in the outskirts of the city on Saturday evening, rumors are afloat that former DMK MP Napolean is set to join the BJP during the proceedings. One of the few DMK senior members who called upon the rebel elder son of the DMK president Karunanidhi, MK Alagiri, when he was suspended from the party, Napolean’s inclusion into the national ruling party could have political implications in the state where it aims to win over 122 seats next year. Following their allegiance to Alagiri, Napolean and other MPs were not given a seat for contesting in the Lok Sabha elections. If the former MP’s move has been endorsed by Alagiri, it could spell trouble for the DMK in the south. Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, Alagiri had met BJP chief Rajnath Singh followed by a personal house visit by BJP state leader H Raja at his Madurai residence. Napolean isn’t the only notable personality set to join the BJP. Director Gangai Amaran and actress Gayathri Raghhuram are also expected to join the party.Tweet
