Congress must stay united, says Chidambaram, welcoming Peter Alphonse back to party fold

Written by : TNM Staff

The Tamil Nadu Congress welcomed back to the party Peter Alphonse, one of the Congress leaders who had gone with GK Vasan’s Tamil Manila Congress. The three-time MLA Alphonse left the TMC as he disagreed with the party’s alliance with the PWF.

Earlier, speaking to the Deccan Chronicle on his disagreement with the TMC decision and the possibility of returning to the Congress fold, Alphonse had said, “I am a Congressman by birth. I have been with Congress all along my life. I was with Congress (O) with K Kamaraj and after his demise joined the Indian National Congress and worked with G.K. Moopanar. When Moopanar quit the Congress, I travelled with him to TMC and moved back to the parent party with Vasan.”

Chidambaram said that the path that the Tamil Nadu Congress has to walk is a long one. He said that the upcoming generations would also have to take the party forward. To walk this long path successfully, the Congress would have to work as one cohesive unit.

Speaking prior to Chidambaram, EVKS Elangovan said that apart from some 10 people, all those who had left the party have now returned home.
