The News Minute | December 8, 2014 | 8:20 am ISTThe Chennai Corporation demolished a temple in the early mornings of Chennai after the Madras High Court rejected a review on its decision to allow demolition of a 30 year-old temple located in front of its entrance. Police and corporation workers both worked on Sunday as demolition was carried out of the Needhi Karumariamman temple, built for M G Ramachandran, the former chief minister’s health while he was under treatment, reported Times of India. Following a 2006 PIL by Traffic Ramaswamy to remove the building, the Madras HC had ordered its demolition in 2014. However, the corporation which now brought down the building had earlier sought a review of the HC’s decision to demolish the temple, said the report. The Corporation had filed a review petition after the HC's decision. The bench however, said that the Corporation is expected to protect public property instead of filing review petitions, said the report.
