The News Minute | January 6, 2015 | 11.30 AM ISTWhile the Karnataka High Court began hearing appeals filed by the AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa and three others, BJP leader Subramanian Swamy appeared before the bench seeking to assist the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption in the case.Saying that the apex court while hearing the bail plea of Jayalalithaa had allowed him to argue before it, he sought permission from the special bench saying that he is the original complainant in the issue, reported Deccan Herald. The High Court directed Swamy to file a written plea regarding his seeking to assist the court in the Rs. 66 crore disproportionate assets case involving Jayalalithaa. Following this , Swamy then approached the Supreme Court complaining that he was not being allowed to argue in the ongoing case. The leader told a bench headed by CJI HL Dattu that he could act as a public prosecutor in the case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The SC then told Swamy to first obtain a formal order from the HC before it looked into the issue, reported The Hindu.Swamy had initially made a private complaint against AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa after which a probe into the matter began in 1996. Swamy said that he would file the petition in a week as he had not been allowed to file a plea in the trial court, according to the report. Previously, DMK general secretary K Anbazhagan too had filed an impleading application seeking to assist the court in the case.
