The Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP expelled the district secretary of a zonal youth wing unit on Wednesday.

State chief Tamilisai Soundarajan gave the suspension order to Salem zonal youth wing secretary V Arun after he was found with unaccounted wads of cash by the police.

Salem district general secretary of the party, RP Gopinath had issued a showcause notice to Arun after more than Rs 20 lakh of unaccounted cash was seized by the police from his car during a regular patrol on November 26.

"Arun acted against our party's principles. Our party is very clear about curbing black money," Gopinath told reporters.

Later, on November 29, Income Tax officials also raided his house and a marriage hall that he owns in Peramanur. This came the police deposited the unaccounted cash in the district treasury and informed the Income Tax department.

“I think there is no problem with his explanation. But, how did he accumulate so much money? The major aim of Modi ji is to wash out black money,” Soundarajan told The Hindu, when commenting on the issue.

Arun, who was a BJP candidate in the postponed civic polls in the state, was with the PMK two years back.
