Written by : TNM Staff

The AIADMK on Wednesday announced the names of its candidates for three constituencies in Tamil Nadu and one constituency in Puducherry.

The three candidates in Tamil Nadu are Senthil Balaji in Aravakurichi, R Rengasamy in Thanjavur and AK Bose in Thiruparankundram. Om Sakthi Sekhar is contesting in the Nellithope constituency in Puducherry.

Thiruparankundram is going to the polls due to the death of MLA SM Seenivel, while Nellithope constituency is seeing elections after Congress MLA A John Kumar stepped down from his seat.

Aravakurichi and Thanjavur are both going to the polls after the Election Commission postponed polls in May over voters being allegedly bribed.

The ECI recommended postponement after large scale seizures of cash, liquor, silver and clothing.

While cash totaling Rs 7.12 crore, 429.24 litres of liquor and silver worth Rs 9 lakh was seized at Aravakurichi, cash totaling Rs 75,20,850 and 2,145.12 litres of liquor was seized at Thanjavur constituency up to May 15.

Apart from these seizures, the ECI also received complaints from the public and from candidates of smaller parties on other alternate means used to distribute money through donations and gifts for its decision.

The ECI, on Monday, announced the polling dates for these constituencies.

An ECI statement said the Gazette notification will be issued on October 26. The last date for nomination is November 2, and the last date for scrutiny of nominations is November 3. Polling will be held on November 19, and counting held on November 22.
