14 years later, Chennai girl gets Rs. 4 lakh compensation for medical negligence

The News Minute | September 30, 2014 | 08:21 am ISTFourteen years after medical negligence rendered her incapable of using her left leg a girl in Chennai has been awarded Rs. 4 lakh compensation.In August 2000, an injection administered by a doctor, Ashok Kumar at Devaki Clinic , led to a swelling and acute neurological damage in Ezhilarasi’s left leg . She had been taken for treatment for her fever said The Times of India.After complications arose Shanmuga Sundaram, Ezhilarasi’s father tried treatment with a number of doctors beforing moving the district consumer disputes redressal forum for medical negligence. However, the complaint was dismissed. It was the state commission which awarded the compensation saying that the doctor responsible for the negligence could “neither rebut nor disprove it”,said the report.
