Watch: Video turns around the narrative on women’s safety, says ‘save the boy child’

In India, successive governments have come up with various schemes to ‘save the girl child’ as well as on women’s safety. In the context of the latter especially, most of the schemes focus on the precautions women can take and/or adding security arrangements and personnel to prevent untoward incidents.

A recent video posted by Keegan Pinto, a music composer and lyricist as per his Facebook bio, talks about something different – saving the boy child.

The video features young boys talking about why they need to be saved, and appealing to their parents to do the same.

Why? Find out here:

In the description of the video, Pinto writes that this is “probably the only real solution to the problem” – the problem being women’s safety.

The young boys featuring in the video make a powerful case for saving them and other young ones like them – from becoming the men who disrespect, lech, harass and rape women. The video also talks about how change should begin at home.

Taking the onus away from women about their safety and placing it back on the society where they’re victimised in the first place, one boy in the video says:

“If you save the boy child, the girls won’t need saving.”
